Ursula von Rydingsvard: Sculpture

May 29 - Aug 28, 2011

Ursula von Rydingsvard is among this country's most important sculptors and is best known for creating large-scale sculpture from cedar beams that have a powerful physical presence. While formally abstract, von Rydingsvard's massive cedar structures reference the landscape, the human body, and the utilitarian objects of her childhood in pre-industrial Poland. This mid-career retrospective is organized by the Sculpture Center in New York and features ten of the artist's most significant sculptures including wall reliefs, monumental cedar works created from 1991 to 2011, as well as her recent works on paper.
